Unbelievable Vicky House: Taitung, Taiwan – My Brain Dump (and why you SHOULD book!)

Okay, buckle up buttercups, because I’m about to unleash on you everything that is Unbelievable Vicky House in Taitung, Taiwan. Forget sterile hotel brochure-speak; this is the REAL DEAL, the messy, honest, opinionated truth from a travel-weary soul who just got back. And spoiler alert: I’m still dreaming of that view.

First Impressions (and a near-disaster with the luggage):

Getting there was easy, thanks to their airport transfer (massive win after a 16-hour flight!). The exterior corridor felt a bit… motel-y at first, which gave me a fleeting moment of panic. But then BAM! The lobby. Okay, maybe not BAM, more like a gentle, "oh, this is nice," feeling. Clean, bright, and (crucially) elevator access. My old knees were already thanking me.

But then… the luggage. Honestly, getting my colossal suitcase through the door was a mission. The exterior corridor seems like a minor detail until you're wrestling a suitcase that's clearly plotting against your sanity. Just a heads up - travel light!

Accessibility: A Mixed Bag (but mostly good!)

They boast about being facilities for disabled guests, which is fantastic. However, details on exactly what that entails are a bit thin. I’d recommend contacting them directly to confirm what specific accessibility features are present, especially if you have specific needs. Check their elevator!

Cleanliness and Safety: Feeling Safe and Sorted

This is where Vicky House REALLY shines. The anti-viral cleaning products and daily disinfection in common areas are reassuring. Plus, EVERYTHING felt immaculate. I'm a germaphobe at heart (don't judge!), so this was a huge relief. They're clearly taking the pandemic seriously, with hand sanitizer everywhere and staff following safety protocol like pros. The room sanitization opt-out available is a nice touch for those environmentally conscious amongst us.

One morning, I saw a cleaner spraying down a door handle three times. Talk about dedication!!! Their rooms sanitized between stays gave me peace of mind, and the doctor/nurse on call is a great safety net. The fire extinguisher and smoke alarms made me feel safe as well.

My Room: A Sanctuary (with a few quirks):

Let's be honest, after a long travel day, you just want a clean, comfortable haven. Vicky House delivers, mostly. My non-smoking room (thank GOD) was spacious and well-appointed. The air conditioning was a LIFESAVER in the Taitung heat. The blackout curtains were essential for catching up on sleep.

The bed was incredibly comfortable… a true oasis. The complimentary tea and free bottled water were a nice touch. I even loved the bathrobes and slippers - total luxury!

The internet access – wireless (Wi-Fi [free]) was fast and reliable, a must-have for a chronic social media scroller like myself. I loved having Wi-Fi in all rooms! But I wish the internet access – LAN was a little more obvious, which is a letdown for the tech-savvy folks.

Here’s the quirky bit: the mirror was strategically placed so I could see my messy hair from every angle. Thanks, Vicky House! But I am a big fan of Desk and had a laptop workspace, which was perfect for some work.

Food, Glorious Food (and a near-vegetarian crisis):

Okay, the food situation at Vicky House is… a mixed bag. The Asian breakfast (which is the default) was decent, but it's not exactly a culinary masterpiece. There's a breakfast [buffet] (again, decent), but the real star is… the view from the restaurant! Sitting there with the mountainscape and the sun… pure bliss.

The restaurants offer Asian cuisine in restaurant, International cuisine in restaurant, and you can enjoy a Bottle of water. However, I – a mostly vegetarian – was left wanting a little more. Vegetarian restaurant, anyone? They do offer alternative meal arrangements, but I'd like to see more vegetarian options on the main menu. One day, I was so frustrated, I almost ate a salad from the Salad in restaurant and, later, a Soup in restaurant for what I could have.

Also, the coffee shop has the best coffee. I went in for my fix the very first day.

Things to do & Ways to Relax: Spa! Pool! Glorious…

Let’s talk about the Swimming pool! That Swimming pool [outdoor] is just… wow. The Pool with view is one of the most beautiful parts of the hotel, it's amazing. This isn’t just a pool; it’s a portal to relaxation! And the Poolside bar is a nice touch for the cocktails.

I didn't get to experience the Body scrub or Body wrap or Fitness center, but they’re fantastic options if you want to get pampered and be fit.

I did indulge in the Spa/sauna which was heavenly. The Steamroom helped relax me after some rough travels.

But seriously, the views…

I'm not a gushy person, but the views from this place are genuinely breathtaking. It's worth booking a room with a view, even if it costs a bit more. Trust me.

Vicky House Taitung Taiwan

Okay, buckle up buttercups, because we're about to dive HEADFIRST into the glorious, chaotic, and probably slightly sunburned reality of my Vicky House Taitung adventure. Forget perfectly polished itineraries - this is the unvarnished truth, the messy-bun version of a travel plan. This is gonna be fun.

Vicky House Taitung: Operation "Find My Zen (and Possibly Lose My Mind)" - A Messy Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival! (aka, the train that nearly broke me)

  • Morning (Taitung Train Station Arrival - Hooo boy): Alright, so the plan was to arrive at Taitung relaxed and ready. Narrator: That did not happen. The train ride from… well, let's just say "Taipei-ish" took FOREVER. Like, I'm pretty sure I aged a year. The air con was a battlefield, alternating between glacial and sauna-like. And the snacks? Let's just say I'm now intimately familiar with the texture of questionable train-station-bought pineapple cake. I'm pretty sure I heard someone loudly declare their love for durian (the smell of which I'm convinced will haunt my dreams). Reached Vicky House, collapsed in a heap in the lobby. Finally. Oh, and I nearly tripped over a rogue suitcase at the station. Fashionably late, as per usual.

  • Afternoon (Checking-in & First Impressions): Vicky House itself is… charming. Okay, maybe a bit on the quirky side. Think "grandma's house, but like, really eclectic and with more anime posters." But hey! The people are seriously lovely. They gave me a huge smile and a map, but then, they started speaking rapid-fire Mandarin. Me? Zero Mandarin. Ended up using frantic charades to communicate that I just wanted to breathe and drink copious amounts of water. Success! Finally, in my small room… Okay, I'm not sure it's big enough to swing a cat, but it's clean, and the AC works (praise be!). The view, or what I could see of it through the slightly-obscured windows, looked promising, even though I was half expecting to see a dragon fly by.

  • Evening (Food & First Bites of Bliss): Okay, so I needed food. Badly. The owner of Vicky House pointed me towards a night market. "Go! Eat!" she urged, practically shoving a map into my hand. This place? Pure chaos. Glorious, beautiful chaos. The smells! The sounds! I'm pretty sure I saw a guy juggling flaming woks. I ended up eating something I think was baozi (steamed buns) and some seriously good fried squid. My stomach grumbled, but I smiled. Taitung hadn't broken me yet. Victory!

  • Late Night (First Impressions, Part 2): This city is just magical at night. The lights, the vibe, the sounds… It's a complete 180 from my hell-train experience. Walking around with a Taiwanese beer in hand and letting the cool night air kiss my face. I can only hope the trip gets better now that this stressful first day's over.

Day 2: Beach Vibes & Bicycle Blunders (aka, the day I faced my fears, and then face-planted)

  • Morning (Coastal Cruising - or the lack thereof): Supposed to be a glorious bike ride along the coast. Reality? The bike from Vicky House was…well-loved. Let's just say the gears weren't exactly "gear-y." The wind was a monster. I looked a complete mess. I actually, actually almost fell off the bike and into the path of a car. It's okay, I'm alive.

    • Anecdote: I nearly crashed because I was too busy staring at the beautiful beach. So a small price to pay..
  • Afternoon (Beach Bliss and Sunburn Regrets): Okay, finally on the beach! The sand was the color of gold, the water was a crystal clear turquoise, and the waves kept crashing. I spent hours just staring out at the ocean, lost in thought and feeling tiny. My phone, though, got sand in it. Which is great.

    • Emotional Reaction: This beach was incredible. The sun was warm, the sea was refreshing , and I swear I forgot all my worries. It felt like pure, unadulterated freedom. Until the sunburn kicked in. Now I look like a lobster. Worth it.
  • Evening (Dinner & Deep Thoughts): Ate at a local restaurant, tried to order fish, wound up with something that looked suspiciously like a giant clam. Still not entirely sure what it was, but it tasted AMAZING. Went back to Vicky House, completely exhausted but happy.

    • Reflection: Feeling incredibly grateful for this experience. Taitung is showing me the best side of life. Even with the bike issues.

Day 3: The Valley of the Gods (and my utter lack of planning) & Farewell Supper

  • Morning (Lacking Proper Planning): Well, my original plan was to take some sort of bus or ride that would show the beauty of Taitung countryside, but I hadn't put much thought into the details beyond that.

    • The Realization: I missed the day's tours. Now I should figure it out.
  • Afternoon( Valley Vibe Check): I took a local bus, and went to the most remote parts of the area. It was the best experience of the whole trip. I felt a sense of peace and serenity.

    • Emotion: I can not describe how happy I was.
  • Evening (Farewell & Food Coma): Okay, time to say goodbye to this fabulous place. The people at Vicky House were so friendly, so welcoming…I felt like I was leaving family. One last dinner at my favorite night market stall (more baozi, obviously!), and a beer to say goodbye!

  • Late Night (Packing & Pondering): Packing is always a nightmare. Trying to remember what I liked, what I hated (mostly the train), and what I’ll miss. So much to do.

Day 4 (Departure - and the inevitable melancholy):

  • Morning (Adios, Taitung!): Seriously, I'm so sad to leave. But hey, I'm leaving with a sun-kissed glow, a belly full of delicious food, and a camera roll overflowing with memories. Taitung, you’ve been real. And a little bit weird. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. On the train, again. Not looking forward to this.
  • Final Thought: This trip wasn’t perfect. There were hiccups, blunders, and moments of utter frustration. But it was real. It was honest. And it's a reminder that the best travel stories are the slightly messy ones. Now to start planning the next one!

Vicky House Taitung Taiwan

Vicky House Taitung Taiwan

Unbelievable Vicky House: Your Taitung Getaway - Seriously, is it THAT good? (Okay, let's talk about it...)

Alright, alright, let's be real. Unbelievable Vicky House. The name itself… it's a lot. But hey, I'm nothing if not honest, so here's the lowdown on whether this Taitung guesthouse actually lives up to the hype (and if I would ever go back even after a few mishaps).

Before we dive in, a disclaimer: My experience? Well, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. But isn't that life (and travel) in a nutshell?

Okay, so first things first: What *IS* Unbelievable Vicky House anyway? Is it a Motel? A Castle? Do I need a secret password?

It's a guesthouse in Taitung, Taiwan. Think charming, slightly quirky, and definitely not a five-star hotel. It's run by Vicky (duh!), and she’s got a personality that's... well, it's something. Let's just say you'll probably remember her. They've got rooms that range from basic to slightly fancier (but still not fancy-fancy). Think clean, comfortable, and with a definite homey vibe. No secret passwords are necessary, unless you count knowing how to find the nearest bubble tea shop (essential).

My first impression? "Wow, this is… quaint." The lobby was filled with various objects, collected over the years and a small dog. I loved it.

The Rooms: Were they actually... Unbelievable? (Don't lie to me.)

Okay, so "unbelievable" is a bit of a stretch. My room? It was perfectly fine. Clean, the bed was comfy enough, and the air conditioning worked like a champ (a lifesaver in Taitung humidity). The decor was… let's call it "eclectic." A mix of local art, some questionable prints, and a few random knick-knacks. But hey, it was clean which is half the battle! and really, I wasn't expecting luxury. This is a guesthouse, not the Ritz.

The one thing I *did* appreciate? The balcony. Seriously, that little balcony overlooking the street was pure gold, especially with a cup of local coffee in the morning. I'd happily sit there for hours.

One thing, however, the toilet was a bit temperamental. A bit. As in, sometimes it decided not to flush, and I had to jiggle the handle for... well, you get the idea. Definitely not "unbelievable," but not a dealbreaker either. I'm used to this in Southeast Asia, so it was not too bad.

Vicky Herself: The Legend, the Myth, the... Hostess? Spill the tea!

Ah, Vicky. Where do I even begin? Let's just say she's… a character. A *very* memorable character. She's got a heart of gold, truly, but she's also got a strong opinion on everything, and she's not afraid to share it. "Eat this, it's good for you!" "Don't go there, it's bad." "The weather is always perfect in Taitung!" (Which it wasn't one day when I was there, but bless her heart).

She's incredibly helpful, and she genuinely wants you to have a good time in Taitung. She gave us a map, suggested some places to eat that were AMAZING, and even gave us a ride to the train station when we were leaving (even though that's not usually part of the service). She's a gem, that Vicky. But be prepared for a LOT of conversation (and perhaps a few unsolicited life suggestions, but that's part of the charm).

I'm not going to lie, it can be a bit overwhelming at first. But once you get used to Vicky's energy, it's actually pretty endearing.

Beyond the Room: The Breakfast, the Location, the Vibe. What's the deal?

Breakfast: The breakfast was… adequate. Not Michelin-star material, but perfectly fine for starting the day. Toast, eggs, some fruit, coffee (which, let's be honest, I needed gallons of). It's a simple Taiwanese-style breakfast, nothing to complain about, and you won't starve.

Location: The location is pretty good. Not right in the heart of the action, but a short walk or a quick scooter ride to most of the things you'd want to see. Restaurants, shops, the beach – all easily accessible. It's a quiet area, which is a bonus, and I felt safe walking around at night.

The Vibe: Relaxed. Chill. Friendly. Like you're staying at a friend's house. A friend who has strong opinions and might try to feed you things you didn't ask for. But a good friend nonetheless.

The "Unbelievable" Experience: Did anything actually live up to the name? (Or was it all just... okay?)

Okay, drumroll please… The *most* "unbelievable" thing about Unbelievable Vicky House? It wasn't the rooms, the breakfast, or even Vicky herself (though she was definitely a contender). It was... the sunset.

One evening, I decided to take Vicky's suggestion and go to... (I forget the name, but it was a scenic spot). I grabbed a scooter (which Vicky helped me arrange – score!), zipped down to the coast, parked on the beach, and waited. And waited. And then, holy moly. The sky exploded with color. Fiery oranges, vibrant pinks, deep purples, all melting into the turquoise sea. It was breathtaking. Seriously, it almost made me cry. It was that beautiful

And you know what? The memory of that sunset, that single, perfect moment, is what truly made Unbelievable Vicky House… well, *almost* unbelievable. Okay, it was a beautiful sunset. The memory really sticks! Yes it was worth it!

The Downsides, the Dirt, the Things They DON'T Tell You (Unless you read this, of course)

Alright, let's get gritty. No place is perfect. Here are a few things you *might* want to know:

  • The noise level: Taitung itself is pretty chill, but your room is a bit… acoustically challenged. You can hear street noise and probably the other guests, I was never bothered so it was not high on the annoyance list, but you may need earplugs if you're a light sleeper.
  • The "decor": As mentioned, it's… unique. If you're a minimalist, you might be overwhelmed. Embrace the quirky, or bring a blindfold.
  • Vicky's advice: Take it with a grain of salt. She means well, but her suggestions might not always align with your personal preferences. But if you want it, you will have it!
  • The bathroom: Be prepared for a potentially temperamental toilet situation. Carry a plunger (kidding!)
  • The dog- be prepared to potentially get a few small barks at youBlog Hotel Search Site
