Escape to Paradise: Bronte Hotel, Harare's Hidden Gem
Bronte Hotel, Harare: Paradise Found? (And a Few Minor Quirks, Let's Be Real) - A Review That's Actually Real.
Okay, so I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Harare, and – spoiler alert – the Bronte Hotel actually lives up to its "Escape to Paradise" billing. But before you think I'm just a shill for the hotel, let me tell you, I'm the opposite. I'm that traveler who meticulously checks reviews, scrutinizes tiny details, and generally expects to find at least one slightly off-kilter thing. And guess what? I did. But overall, the Bronte? Pretty damn good.
Let's start with the important stuff: Accessibility – Because, You Know, It Matters.
Right, so accessibility. This is one area where the Bronte shines, and it's a HUGE plus. They've clearly put thought into it. I was really impressed with their wheelchair access. It's not just lip service; ramps are plentiful, and the elevators run smoothly. Facilities for disabled guests are definitely there. Also, and this is a big one for comfort, the elevator is a lifesaver! And for extra points, they have facilities for disabled guests.
Food, Glorious Food (and My Minor Meltdown Over the Buffet)
Okay, food. This is where things get interesting. The restaurants are lovely, and the International cuisine in the restaurant is top-notch. The Asian cuisine in the restaurant was surprisingly good, too! And the vegetarian restaurant? My friend Sara, a committed veggie, practically wept with joy.
Now, the breakfast buffet. It was… vast. Overflowing even. They had everything: Asian breakfast, Western breakfast, the whole shebang. Now, I am a buffet person. I adore the buffet. But this one was so much. I found myself making a series of increasingly bizarre food combinations. I think I had a samosa with scrambled eggs and a slice of watermelon. It was a culinary journey, alright. But a slightly chaotic one. They do have, to their credit, breakfast in room options, which I might have considered if I hadn't already committed to the buffet chaos. They also offer breakfast takeaway service which is helpful for those on the go.
The coffee/tea in restaurant should be noted as it's not always a given. And the poolside bar? Heaven. Sipping a cocktail, watching the sun set over the pool… pure bliss. They also have a Snack bar, which is perfect for a quick bite. The coffee shop is good, however, and I loved having bottle of water in my room.
Relaxation? Oh, You Betcha.
Forget about the daily grind, the Bronte understands that a good hotel lets you do just one thing: relax. The pool with a view? Stunning. Seriously, jaw-dropping. I parked myself there for a solid afternoon reading a terrible airport novel and feeling no guilt whatsoever.
The Spa is also fantastic. I got a massage, and it was… transformative. My masseuse, a woman named Mercy (yes, really), had hands of steel and an uncanny ability to find every knot in my back. Seriously, if you go, ask for Mercy. Tell her I sent you. I didn't try the Body scrub or Body wrap, maybe next time. They also have a **Sauna, a *Steamroom*, and even a *Foot bath* which is a nice touch. Also a Gym/fitness if you have any energy after all of that.
Cleanliness and Safety: Because We Live in the Real World.
Let's be practical: the world is a bit… germy these days. The Bronte takes its responsibilities seriously. The Anti-viral cleaning products, and the Professional-grade sanitizing services instilled confidence. The Daily disinfection in common areas and Room sanitization between stays was very reassuring. The staff is obviously well-trained. Staff trained in safety protocol. There's also a First aid kit and a Doctor/nurse on call. They also have Hygiene certification. Individually-wrapped food options were available, which is always appreciated.
Also, they have CCTV in common areas and CCTV outside property. All good things. Oh, and the Safe dining setup felt safe, too. I appreciated their attention to the details.
Rooms: My Sanctuary (Mostly)
My room (a non-smoking one, thank god!) was lovely. Let's talk Room Tech. It was very comfortable. Here's a rundown: Air conditioning, Alarm clock, Bathrobes, Bathroom phone, bathtub, Blackout curtains (essential for sleeping off jetlag), Closet, Coffee/tea maker (Complimentary tea), Daily housekeeping, Desk, Extra long bed, Hair dryer, and a In-room safe box. The Shower, Slippers, the Smoke detector, the Soundproofing, the Telephone, Toiletries. It also had Wi-Fi [free] as promised!
I loved the seating area. The only minor glitch? The internet was spotty at times. But hey, free Wi-Fi in all rooms! is still amazing.
Services & Conveniences: They've Thought of Everything! (Almost)
Here's a rapid fire of what Bronte has going for it: The Concierge was super helpful. Currency exchange – super handy. Dry cleaning, Ironing service – perfect for travel. Even an Elevator, which is important if you're tired of walking. But here’s my favorite: Contactless check-in/out. Amazing!
They have a convenience store for those midnight snack attacks. They provide a luggage storage service and cash withdrawal. They also provide Babysitting service which is nice for families.
The "Things to Do" (Beyond Lounging by the Pool)
The Bronte itself is a bit of a destination. They have Meeting/banquet facilities, and they can handle Indoor venue for special events, and Outdoor venue for special events. They also have a Gift/souvenir shop (perfect for last-minute presents) and a lovely Terrace.
The Downside (Because I Promised Honesty)
Okay, here's my tiny gripe (because I can't not have one). Some parts of the hotel feel a tad dated. The décor could use a refresh in places. It's not a deal-breaker, not at all, but it’s noticeable. But hey, the charm of the bronte makes up for it.
Overall Verdict: Book It!
Would I go back to the Bronte Hotel? Absolutely. It's a lovely, well-run hotel that offers a genuine escape. It's got a great atmosphere, fantastic facilities, and the staff genuinely seem to care. I give it a solid 4.5 stars!

Suzhou Qingshan: China's Most Stunning Conference Center Unveiled!
Okay, buckle up Buttercup, because this isn't your average, perfectly-polished travel itinerary. This is going to be more like… well, me, trying to survive a few days at the Bronte Hotel in Harare, Zimbabwe. And you know what that means: chaos, questionable decisions, and a whole lotta "what was I thinking?" thrown in for good measure.
Bronte Hotel, Harare: A Messy, Honest, and Utterly Human Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Initial Panic (and the best damn scones of my life?)
- 8:00 AM (Give or take an hour…or two): Landed in Harare. Honestly, customs was a breeze. Probably because I looked like a deer caught in headlights, which is a common affliction on my travels. The heat hits you like a wall. Not a "pleasant Mediterranean breeze" kind of hit. More like a "standing in front of a blast furnace" kind of hit. (Note to self: Pack lighter. And maybe learn to sweat less. Is that even a thing?)
- **9:30 AM: **Got my bags (shockingly, no lost-luggage drama!) and got on the prearranged transfer to the Bronte - a friendly chap with a smile that could melt glaciers, which was needed, given the early morning.
- **10:30 AM: **Check-in. The Bronte. It's… charming. In a slightly faded, colonial kind of way. Think "grandma's attic, but like, in a good way." The staff is incredibly lovely, which is a huge plus because I'm already feeling overwhelmed.
- **11:00 AM: **Room. Not a bad room, spacious, overlooking the garden. Pretty. Could probably spend a lot of time on the balcony, which sounds perfect for some downtime.
- **12:00 PM: **Lunch at the hotel restaurant. Oh. My. God. The scones. I'm not exaggerating when I say they were life-changing. Flaky, buttery perfection. I seriously contemplated ordering another plate. And then another. And then hiding in my room and becoming one with the scones. (Resisted. Mostly.).
- 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Honestly, just needed a good break. So, sprawled on the bed, devoured a book and had a nap. Jetlag is a brutal mistress.
- 4:00 PM: Attempted to go for a walk in the hotel grounds. Got distracted by a particularly feisty flock of pigeons and ended up watching them for way too long. (Why are pigeons so fascinating? Someone, please explain this to me.) Decided to call it a day.
- 6:00 PM: Drinks at the bar. Met a woman named Sarah who looked like she'd seen a few things. Listened to her stories and asked her advice. Turns out she's a local, and she's giving the best advice I've ever had.
- **7:00 PM: **Dinner. Chicken curry was a definite success.
- 8:30 PM: Collapsed into bed, already planning my scone strategy for tomorrow. Wish me luck, I'll need it.
Day 2: Art, Coffee, and a Mild Melt-Down (and the Scone Saga Continues…)
7:00 AM: Wake up! Thank the Lord.
7:30 AM: The SCONES!!! Back at it. This time, I managed to consume only one (a small victory). Told the lovely waitress, “You should sell them to everyone, they're the reason I chose this hotel!” She laughed and said she would pass the message.
9:00 AM: Went to the National Gallery. The art was interesting. The air conditioning, a lifesaver. Wandered around a bit, pretending to understand the deeper meaning behind some of the more abstract pieces. (Spoiler alert: I didn't. But pretended to. Really, really hard.)
11:00 AM: Coffee break at a cute little café Sarah recommended. And the coffee? Divine. Proper, strong African coffee. Needed it after staring at all that art.
12:30 PM: Lunch. Back at the hotel. That scone situation was calling to me. I was weak. And, in my defense, the scones were calling to me. (I swear they have a siren song.) This time, only one. I really am improving.
2:00 PM: Tried to go for a walk. Failed miserably. The heat! It was more intense than yesterday. I was officially melting. Abandoned the walk and retreated to the safety of my air-conditioned room.
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Wrote a few postcards, read the rest of the book, and attempted to do some "work." Failed at the work part. My focus was entirely on scones and that's pretty much it.
6:00 PM: Dinner at the hotel again. I'm starting to feel like I live here. Which, let's be honest, I wouldn't mind if it weren't for the price of the scones.
**7:00 PM: ** Met Sarah at the bar again, we chatted for hours. So many stories, so much laughter.
8:45 PM: Collapsed into bed. Day 2: Success. Sort of.
Day 3: Markets, Madness, and…More Scones?
- 7:00 AM: YES!
- 7:30 AM. Back for the scones. Only one. The fight within keeps on!
- 9:00 AM: Went to the market. It's an assault on the senses. Amazing colors, smells, noise. Bought way too many souvenirs I probably don't need, but hey, they're cool souvenirs. Almost got scammed. But did not get scammed!
- 11:00 AM: Lunch at the hotel. (You seeing a pattern here?) The scones…are calling… I was strong this time. Managed!
- 1:00 PM: Afternoon by the pool. Surprisingly good. The water was divine. This is what you call paradise.
- 3:00 PM: Went to the bar and met with the bar tender and started to learn a few words in Shona. It’s tricky, but I felt more connected to the culture for some reason.
- 6:00 PM: Dinner. The end.
- 7:00 PM: Packing. Bitter sweet.
- 9:00 PM: Bed.
Day 4: The Great Scone Farewell and Departure
- 6:00 AM: Up before the sun. Heartbreak.
- 6:30 AM: Last scone. The best.
- 7:00 AM: Check-out.
- 8:00 AM: Departure.
- Final Thoughts: Harare was incredible. Bronte Hotel was charming. The scones were a spiritual experience. I'm already planning my return and a scone-fueled pilgrimage.
AND THAT, folks, is my Bronte Hotel experience. A glorious, messy, scone-filled adventure. I hope you enjoyed the ride. Now, where's that airline food?
